As you probably know, an ultra-rare Nintendo cartridge was recently sold for a massive $99,000 (lucky owner). This started me wondering which of the modern games players should keep hold of in order to pad out their pension funds for the future. Now, the amounts shown below are what the titles are worth now, so imagine what they’ll be worth in twenty to thirty years’ time.

Featured - Kickstarter round-up - part two

Aliens VS Predator Hunter Edition
Sealed: $170
Used: $100

Ever wished you had a life-sized Facehugger you could wrap around your head? Well, now you can with this rare edition of Alien VS Predator. Alongside the game itself, the Hunter Edition includes a graphic novel, a great steel case, some DLC maps, a Weyland-Yutani Corp patch, and a lenticular holographic card. But the icing on the cake is the very real-looking Facehugger replica, perfect for jokes on your friends.

Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition
Sealed: $200
Used: $80

If you’re a Mortal Kombat fan from back in the day, then it was most likely the arcades where you had your first play of the beat-’em-up classic. With this amazing-looking special edition you can go straight back to your childhood with a kickarse arcade cabinet. Not only does it look like something special, you can also open it up to reveal your copy of the game along with some pretty cool DLC vouchers.

The Last of Us: Post Pandemic Edition
Sealed: $390
Used: $340

Not only is The Last of Us one of the best games of last year, but when it was first released you could get your hands on a Post Pandemic Edition which included a rare, hand-painted statuette of Joel and Ellie. This in itself is worth £200; throw into the mix some DLC vouchers, the first issue of The Last of Us comic, a steel case and some stickers, and you have a package that’s worth more then the PS3 itself.

Assassin’s Creed II Master Assassin Edition
Sealed: $400
Used: $160

As we all know the Assassin’s Creed franchise just released its fourth instalment in the series, but of all the special editions none have been as good as the Assassin’s Creed II bundle. It includes an art book, a behind-the-scenes DVD, the soundtrack and two exclusive maps that would later become DLC; but the best thing is the 8.5-inch statuette of Ezio, wrist-blades-at-the-ready and looking for some action.

Uncharted 2: Fortune Hunter Edition
Sealed: $11,327
Used: $9,204

In 2009, Sony tried its hardest to craft the rarest game bundle ever made, making only two-hundred copies of this special edition. Those who played the Uncharted 2 demo during select weekends in the month of October 2009 were entered to win one. The lucky winners were rewarded with a copy of the game, an art book, the official guide, and a replica gold dagger that could easily double as an Indiana Jones prop.

I wonder what will ever top this?

So if you have any of these special editions please never get rid of or misplace them. You never know, one day they may bring you $99,000 of your own.
