After Kimmy’s article yesterday about her experience with Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey, and P-Diddy’s piece on Tuesday about Prison Architect, it’s now W1ngman’s turn to tell you about his best of Rezzed 2013: Sneaksneak.
W1ngman says:
It was great seeing the indie scene thriving at Rezzed this year. There are a lot of talented developers out there right now doing their own thing and each trying to create a vision of something different. As I was squeezing my way through the cramped corridor of the Leftfield Collection I spotted many great games, but one stood out and I just had to have a go: Sneaksneak by Frambosa. It instantly reminded me of the old-school platform games from the 1980s and 1990s and, in some ways, Metal Gear Solid (review coming soon); add to that the fact it’s co-op play, and you have the perfect mix of classic and unique.
Sneaksneak is getting quite a bit of attention despite still being in the early stages of development. It’s received nominations at several events including A MAZE Indie Connect and the IGF Student Showcase, and won the award for best student game at the Dutch Game Awards. The developers have also been invited over to Shanghai by Game Connect Asia to be in with a chance of winning the ‘Best Project of 2013′ prize, but unfortunately they’re unable to go due to not being able to raise the necessary funds in time. However, Frambosa shouldn’t feel down because this just proves that Sneaksneak is a great project that the rest of the world is taking note of.
In Sneaksneak, a savage race of beings called the Roboquistadors have arrived on your shores with the overwhelming desire to claim your land as their own. With these monsters totally surrounding you, players must sneak their way to safety and try to figure out how to banish the opposition from their homeland. Frambosa’s website explains that the game is based on four main points: never play alone, which refers to the great co-op gameplay; be sneaky, as stealth is a necessity; be swift, as observation and timing are essential for survival; and stare endlessly, which reinforces the fact that Sneaksneak is a very colourful and highly stylish title.
I would have loved to have had a chat with one of the developers at Rezzed but unfortunately there was nobody around; but seeing as the Leftfield Collection was rammed with people all day we could easily have missed them. They’ve certainly found themselves some supporters here, and we’ll definitely be keeping a close on on progress as we can’t wait for the game’s release in late 2013. Frambosa are clearly a very talented team and we hope they’ve got some more ideas up their sleeves for when their current project is finished. Try Sneaksneak as soon as you’re able to – you really won’t regret it.
We hope you’ve enjoyed 1001-Up.com’s coverage of Rezzed 2013 this week. It was great being there to see the future of indie gaming and we can safely say that industry is in good hands – we’ll definitely be going back next year.
