Over the past several months here at 1001-Up.com, we’ve been running a poll on what players think best game of 2012 was. The results are finally in and the title that our readers have voted for is… drum roll please…
Dishonored won our poll by a whopping margin with over 42% of the votes, beating off competition from four other critically-acclaimed titles. The Walking Dead: The Game received 29% of votes, Mass Effect 3 and Assassins Creed III both came in with just over 14% and Journey received… well, nothing. This is quite surprising seeing as it was the biggest winner at this year’s British Academy Games Awards scooping five prizes.
For those who don’t know, the winning game was released in October 2012 and is an open-word action stealth adventure set in the run-down city of Dunwall. Players take on the role of protagonist Corvo Attano, a bodyguard to the Empress Jessamine Kaldwin, who gets framed for her murder and is forced to become an assassin in order to hunt down the person who ruined his life.
Following Dishonored’s release, it was nothing but positive reviews right across the board. The game also won numerous awards, being named ‘Best Action Adventure Game’ at the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards and receiving the 2013 BAFTA for ‘Best Game’. It’s therefore not hard to see why this title topped our poll; we can only hope
Arkain Studios and Bethesda Softworks can make a bigger and better sequel or another original title that will blow our minds.
Our next poll has now been published and we’re asking where we’re going to see you this year. With all of the gaming events scheduled for the rest of 2013, it looks like it’s going to be bright and shiny.
