Bungie, creators of the renowned Halo (review coming soon) franchise, have released a new trailer called ‘The Law of the Jungle’ for their much-hyped and highly-anticipated Destiny.

The Destiny trailer stars Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito and sees him reading a passage from Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. It displays no actual gameplay but we feel it gives a true representation of what this title will be about; a group of three Guardians (possibly our protagonists) are seen on what looks like the moon, making a strike on an enemy camp before getting away on some pretty fast hover bikes. The second half of the video places the group in a desert environment, using a weapon that seems to destroy several enemies with just one shot. The final line in the trailer from Esposito is pretty evocative: “The strength of the pack is in the wolf and strength of the wolf is in the pack”.

Similar to PlanetSide, Bungie expects Destiny to have a ten-year life span from the day of launch. It isn’t yet known if this will be through several games or via many expansion packs, but it’s ambitious either way. A contract detailing the developer’s deal with Activision originally had the title scheduled for release during the last half of 2013, but when the company showed its outlook for the year Destiny wasn’t on there; from this we can only assume that the release date has been pushed back to 2014, seeing as it’s due to appear on all major platforms including the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

What Bungie have shown gamers so far looks nothing short of amazing. With some actual gameplay footage being promised for the E3 expo, we’ll get to truly see if Destiny really lives up to the hype.
