Take Two recently revealed the roster for WWE 2K14’s ’30 Years of Wrestlemania’ mode. Following on from the success of WWE ’13’s effort last year with the ‘Attitude Era’ mode, it has a lot to live up to.

The ’30 Years of Wrestlemania’ mode does exactly what it says on the tin: it will chart three decades of historic matches, starting from the very first Wrestlemania in 1984 and going all the way through to Wrestlemania 29 earlier this year. This is gearing up the for the thirtieth anniversary of the event that will take place in April 2014 in New Orleans. The roster of wrestlers is quite deep and looking at the names given, there are so many exciting possibilities.

The full roster is as follows:

  • Alberto Del Rio
  • Andre the Giant
  • Batista

Iconic moments like this never get old.

After you play through the mode and you have your nostalgia fix, no doubt this will inspire you to create your own fantasy set of matches for the ultimate Wrestlemania. It’s an exciting prospect because players can finally have CM Punk versus Austin, Cena versus Hogan, Macho Man versus HBK, and Undertaker… well, Undertaker versus anyone. The roster will also include the current WWE crop and although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, I’d be very surprised if the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Daniel Bryan, Damien Sandow and The Shield didn’t show up.

When the first trailer and screenshots were revealed for WWE 2K14, many people commented that it just looked like WWE 13.5. This point is kind of hard to argue seeing as graphically it’s very similar, much of the superstars’ attire hasn’t changed, and some entrances that have been shown are the same frame-for-frame. But I still believe it will be a must-own WWE game, with many more surprises to be revealed including improved gameplay, more ‘OMG’ finishers, a bigger and better ‘Universe’ mode and more create-a-wrestler options.

We can’t wait for WWE 2K14 to be released and, although some WWE titles in the past have been lacklustre at best, I don’t believe this one will fall into that category. The new offering from Take Two has the potential to be one of the greatest wrestling titles of all time, just for the simple fact that a smile that will appear on you face when you see Andre the Giant getting slammed by Hulk Hogan one more time.
