During the E3 conference, we ran a poll to see which next-generation console 1001-Up.com readers wanted to get their hands on. The results are in and we can reveal that come Christmas, the console that the majority of people will be buying is… drumroll please…
That’s right: it’s the PlayStation 4 with a staggering 47.69% of the vote. Second place is a bit of a surprise with 30.77% of voters saying that they weren’t going to be buying any of the consoles. The Xbox One comes in third with 15.38%, and 4.62% of readers said that they were going to get all of the hardware. The poor Wii U limps in last with not even two percent of the vote.
The PS4 coming in first place is probably no real surprise to anyone. Sony has done everything right since the new console was announced, giving true fans of gaming everything they wanted; they focused totally on the playing experience, unlike Microsoft. The Xbox One reveal was all about connecting to the internet once a day or not being able to trade your physical discs with a friend unless you paid a pre-owned fee to unlock the content. Thankfully Microsoft did a turnaround but unfortunately it seems as if the damage has already been done and confidence in the brand is low.
But we must spare a thought for the troubled Wii U. Its start in life wasn’t the best, whether it be the much-lower-than-expected sales figures or Nintendo not having enough confidence to compete with the big boys at E3. These are tough times for the company, but in a way it makes us all the more interested in seeing how they handle their next console in the future. Will they stick with the kid-friendly hardware and non-offensive titles or will they totally shake things up and bring something out that hardcore gamers will love? Will they end up having Microsoft and Sony shaking in their boots?
With so many of you choosing the PS4 above any other it’s hard not to see how the PlayStation won’t take its place on top of the console mountain for years to come. Take a look at our article for our opinions on the next-generation war, and be sure to vote in our new poll on the video games that bring back the most childhood memories.
